Mobile Shopping
A recent survey conducted by Lightspeed Research, a leading online market research company, has shown that us Britons are quite happy with the prospect of shopping via the internet on our mobile phones.
Because mobile phone penetration into the market is higher than that of PCs, shopping via your mobile phone could be the next big thing for the industry. Buying mobile ringtones, videos and music is already a big business in the mobile phone industry.
The survey, conducted by Lightspeed Research in April 2008 of 998 respondents, shows that 17% of those questioned would be willing to buy products and services via the internet on their mobile phone. A possible surprising finding of the survey was that men were more likely to shop via the mobile internet - with 22% of men agreeing and just 12% of women would shop via this method.
Although 17% may not seem like the highest figure, online shopping via the internet took quite a while to catch on, and is now a thriving market, so the figure of 17% is a starting point for the industry.
The figure of 17% is higher than the respondents in France where just 9% said they would be willing to shop this way, but those questioned in Germany 25% said they would shop on the mobile internet.
Of the items that the respondents said they would buy on the mobile internet DVDs and CDs came out on top with 73% of the votes, followed by travel with 55% and flowers with 48%. Right at the bottom of the list were clothes, food and toiletries.
